Date: 9 September 2026
Deadline: 10 September 2026, 11:59 PM
Submission: Physical delivery to GIZ Ghana, 7 Volta Street, Airport Residential Area, Accra

Development: GIZ’s Ghanaian-European Centre is seeking a consultancy firm to deliver an eight-month livelihood programme for 130 returned migrants and vulnerable Ghanaians across five regions. The assignment covers vocational-apprenticeship placements, support for existing SMEs, business registration, entrepreneurship training, financial literacy, referrals and reporting.

Jacob’s analysis: The assignment aligns strongly with BRICS Africa Consulting and CCEDR capabilities in SME finance, entrepreneurship, training, registration, programme management and impact reporting. The qualification requirement for experience with returned migrants, refugees or vulnerable populations means that sector-specific implementation credentials will be decisive.

Decision and opportunity: Undertake an immediate partner assessment with a qualified migration or reintegration organisation. If the full eligibility requirements cannot be met, position BRICS as a specialist subcontractor for financial literacy, SME support, registration, monitoring, evaluation and reporting.

2. Ghana’s non-traditional exports reach a record US$5.006 billion

Development: Ghana is pursuing greater domestic value addition after non-traditional exports reached US$5.006 billion in 2025. Horticulture and broader agribusiness value chains are central to the opportunity.

Jacob’s analysis: Export growth will not automatically translate into stronger Ghanaian enterprises. Producers need reliable costing, financial records, certification, traceability, tax and customs planning, working capital and investment readiness to capture more value locally.

Decision and opportunity: BRICS should introduce an Agribusiness Export Readiness Service covering business diagnostics, product costing, financial modelling, tax and customs planning, funding preparation, digital records and market-entry support.

3. Ghana begins locally producing liquid medical oxygen

Development: Indo-Ghana Industries has commenced local production and supply of liquid medical oxygen, with LEKMA Hospital receiving the first reported supply. Domestic production could strengthen availability and reduce dependence on imported or externally transported supplies.

Jacob’s analysis: The opportunity is not limited to purchasing at a potentially lower price. Healthcare facilities should evaluate total procurement cost, storage infrastructure, delivery reliability, safety controls, consumption monitoring and emergency-stock policies.

Decision and opportunity: Franklyn Medical Centre should obtain a commercial and technical quotation from Indo-Ghana Industries. BRICS can develop a Hospital Medical-Gas Cost and Supply Review for healthcare clients, covering consumption analysis, supplier comparison, controls and contingency planning.

4. Fidelity Bank advocates value-chain financing for Ghanaian agriculture

Development: Fidelity Bank is advocating a shift from isolated lending to individual farmers toward financing connected agricultural value chains involving producers, processors, aggregators, buyers and supporting enterprises.

Jacob’s analysis: This approach fits BRICS Africa Agribusiness’ practical work in poultry, rice production, feed formulation, soil testing, mechanisation and women-led agribusiness. It can reduce fragmentation, strengthen repayment capacity and create broader advisory engagements than single-enterprise loan applications.

Decision and opportunity: Present Fidelity Bank with a Value-Chain Investment Readiness Partnership through which BRICS identifies agribusiness clusters, prepares financial models, trains enterprises, strengthens records and monitors financed businesses.

5. Africa AI Week opens in Accra with demand for practical solutions

Date: 8 September 2026

Development: Government representatives, technology leaders and investors opened One Vecta Africa AI Week with a call to move beyond general AI discussion toward practical solutions for business and national-development challenges.

Jacob’s analysis: The commercial opening is for applied AI that improves decisions, controls and productivity. BRICS should position its technology work around practical use cases integrating finance, ERP, dashboards, Google Workspace and sector-specific operations.

Decision and opportunity: Develop three demonstrable use cases: an AI finance assistant, a hospital receivables and claims dashboard, and an agribusiness profitability assistant. Use them to pursue event contacts, partnerships and pilot clients.

Jacob’s three priorities for today

  1. Resolve the GIZ opportunity immediately: secure a qualified migration-sector partner or pursue a defined subcontracting role.
  2. Assess the medical-oxygen opportunity: obtain pricing, storage and delivery information from Indo-Ghana Industries for Franklyn Medical Centre.
  3. Convert intelligence into proposals: prepare an agricultural value-chain financing partnership for Fidelity Bank and a three-use-case AI demonstration pack for prospective partners.
